  • “Crafting a Captivating Personal Statement for Dental School Applications”

I need help writing a personal statement. I am applying to dental schools soon and need to write a strong captivating essay.
“Your personal statement is a one-page essay (not to exceed 4,500 characters, including spaces, carriages, numbers, letters, etc.) that gives dental schools a clear picture of who you are and, most importantly, why you want to pursue a career in dentistry. Although there is no set of rules mandating what a strong personal statement should include, here are a few tips to help you successfully craft a winning personal statement: Explain a defining moment that helped steer you toward a career in dentistry. Consider using that moment as the focal point of your essay. Be colorful, positive, imaginative and personal when discussing why you’re a good candidate for dental school. Ask yourself—in a pile of 100 applications, would I enjoy reading my statement? Be sure to convey your passion for dentistry in your statement. Be yourself. Don’t use jargon, clichés or big phrases that you would not use in daily conversation. Remember, dental schools want to know about the real you. Be original and thoughtful: Discuss how you would contribute to the profession and patient care, all of which will help you stand out from other applicants. Tell your story—make sure the essay is your story, not someone else’s. Recruit a friend. Ask a friend, relative or faculty advisor to read your essay and provide constructive criticism. Ask them to think about whether the essay is a good representation of your character, and what they know of your ideals and aspirations. Give yourself time to organize your thoughts, write well and edit as necessary. And don’t forget to proofread, proofread, proofread! Here are a few things to avoid when writing your personal statement: Writing what you think the admissions committee wants to hear. Using a gimmicky style or format. Summarizing your resume or repeating information directly from your transcripts or recommendation letters. Emphasizing the negative. Waiting until the last minute to get started on your statement.”
I have gone ahead and attached a document with points that i jotted down that could potentially help us work on writing a strong personal statement. Applications reviewers usually determine if an application is worth reading through the first couple of lines so i want to come up with something capturing.

  • Integrating Quotes in Writing Integrating Quotes: Enhancing Argument and Credibility

Write a few sentences (about 100 words) integrating a quote that you will be using in your paper. You can cite from the articles you will be using or you can cite from the novel itself for this activity. Be sure to connect your quote to the rest of your sentences. You can do this via signal phrases (“Smith argues” OR “According to Smith,” etc) or by integrating your quote as it grammatically fits into your sentence. Document your quote by using the MLA in-text citation guidelines you have studied in this lesson.
When you are done posting your response, reply to at least one classmate in no fewer than 75 words. Comment on how effectively they have integrated a quote.
Here is an example to help guide your response:
    John: Hi everyone,
Here is my paragraph with the quotes I integrated into it:
On Sula’s deathbed, she expresses to Nel her thoughts about the lifestyles and conditions of the women in Medallion. “You think I don’t know what your life is like just because I am not living it? I know what every colored woman in this country is doing.” Even though Nel wants Sula to settle down and have children, Sula takes pride in her choice not to conform. “Dying just like me. But the difference is they dying like a stump and I’m going down like one of those redwoods. I sure did live in this world.” Sula says everybody’s life is a journey to death, yet she believes her course to be nobler than that of her peers. She knows she is living her authentic self, and she does not live for appearances.
Emily: Hello, John. I think you did a great job on your paragraph. I think the quote can be put into the sentence by using commas and introductory phrases. This can help tie together your argument and the quote so that it flows. Also, cite the author and let the reader know what page you are talking about. Your essay seems like it is going to be very good!
Professor: John, this is a good point about Sula and her desire to live authentically. Emily makes a good observation. You haven’t integrated your quote into your discussion, and you haven’t cited the page numbers from the novel. To integrate the quote, you need punctuation and signal phrases. Here is an example of how to integrate and cite from the novel:
On Sula’s deathbed, she expresses to Nel her thoughts about the lifestyles and conditions of the women in Medallion: “You think I don’t know what your life is like just because I am not living it? I know what every colored woman in this country is doing” (Morrison 93). Even though Nel wants Sula to settle down and have children, Sula takes pride in her choice not to conform. She continues by telling Nel that the women of Medallion are “[d]ying just like me. But the difference is they dying like a stump and I’m going down like one of those redwoods. I sure did live in this world” (Morrison 93). Sula says everybody’s life is a journey to death, yet she believes her course to be nobler than that of her peers. She knows she is living her authentic self, and she does not live for appearances. Link to novel : https://s3.amazonaws.com/scschoolfiles/112/sula-to…

  • Title: Expanding Across Borders: A PESTEL and SWOT Analysis for Kohl’s Corporation’s Potential Expansion into a New Nation

In the readings and videos this week you are exposed to information about global opportunities and business strategy.
For this forum, answer the following questions using the textbook and the other module materials as needed:
What are the components of a PESTEL analysis?
    What is a SWOT analysis?
One of the reasons that firms expand across borders is to expand the impact and value created by their strong brands. Kohl’s Corporation is a very large and successful US retailer, but it has no physical or Internet retail outlets outside the United States. Kohl’s is looking to expand into your nation. Undertake a PESTEL and SWOT analysis to determine what the opportunities and barriers would be in this nation. In your opinion, should Kohl’s pursue an expansion or should it stay “local”?
Be sure that you reference the module materials to develop your position and support your statements. Use APA citations and references.
