The initial essay must meet the following expectations:

Discussion Question:
Carper’s 4 Patterns of Knowing (Chapter 1) Develop a graphic that illustrates Carper’s theory and post it to the discussion board. Explain Carper’s theory of nursing knowledge and how your graphic illustrates the 4 components of the theory. Be sure to include specific sub-competencies in your post. See examples below. Purpose: The purpose of the threaded discussion is to promote dialogue among students and faculty related to course competencies and constructs to enhance mastery of knowledge related to course objectives. Requirements:
The student must provide the initial substantive response to the discussion question/topic(s) posted by the course faculty by Friday of those weeks with a discussion board assignment. The student must also provide a minimum of two additional responses to two student colleagues on two different days by Tuesday of those weeks with a discussion board assignment. All questions posed to the initial student post by course faculty need to be answered by the student to earn full credit for the discussion board assignment. This should be substantive feedback to a student colleague’s response to the question/topic posted by the course faculty. All responses must be respectful and thoughtful. A 70-year-old woman is in your office complaining of recently having trouble maintaining her balance after taking diazepam (valium). She occasionally takes diazepam when she feels anxious and has trouble sleeping. She has a 15-year history of taking diazepam.

A 75-year-old woman develops symptoms of a cold and buys an over-the-counter cold medication at the grocery store. The medication contains diphenhydramine, acetaminophen, and phenylephrine. She takes the recommended adult dose but soon after taking the medication, she becomes very confused and disoriented.

A 26-year-old woman who has never been pregnant is seeking preconception care as she is planning to pursue pregnancy in a couple of months. Currently, she has no symptoms to report and on review of body systems, there were no concerns. Her past medical history is significant for a history of rheumatic fever as a child.
