Title: The Post-Punk Era: A Case for Musical Greatness and Social Turbulence in Goth Music (Chapter 22)
Please, use ONLY THE ASSIGNED READING to complete this essay. The PDF will be attached.
Please write about prompt A. while focusing on Goth (chapter 22 pdf.)
In the introduction to Rip It Up And Start Again, Simon Reynolds writes “[t]he post-punk era certainly rivals the sixties in terms of the sheer amount of great music created, the spirit of adventure and idealism that infused it, and the way that the music seemed inextricably connected to the political and social turbulence of the times.”(xiv) Does he make a convincing case in support of this bold contention? Why or why not? (Rather than attempting to master the vast and diverse body of pop music produced in Britain 1978-84, you may concentrate on a specific music scene or genre, for example Leeds (chap. 7), Sheffield (chap. 9), Manchester (chap. 10), Neo-Ska (chap. 15), Synthpop (chap. 17). Goth (chap. 22), Neo-Psychedelica (chap. 23), etc. -
“The Respiratory System: Essential for Life and Vital for Survival”
In this lesson, we learned about the many systems that work together in the body. For this assignment, you are going to pretend that you are the spokesperson for one of the systems in your body. You will write 3-5 sentences stating why you are the most important system and why you deserve the award for “Most Influential Body System Ever.” Read the entry from last year’s winner; the Reproductive System. Good afternoon, my name is the Reproductive System. Thank you for your consideration for this year’s ‘Most Influential Body System Ever’ award. First of all, I would like to mention that I am needed to create life. Sadly, if there are abnormalities or damage to any of my parts, infertility can occur. My responsibilities include producing egg and sperm cells, transporting and sustaining these cells, nurturing the developing offspring, and producing the correct hormones when needed.
Task 1: Choose a system to research: Respiratory system
Skeletal system
Nervous system
Endocrine system
Immune system
Task 2: Read about your system. Find at least 2 responsibilities of your system and one negative impact that can occur if there is a problem with your system. Task 3: Write a 3-5 sentence speech about why your system should win the award. Make sure to include at least 2 of the responsibilities of the system and one negative occurrence that can happen if something is amiss with the system. Task 4: Cite your sources and include them after your paragraph. Your response will be graded based on the following rubric: Category

Title: Social Stratification and Inequality in Modern Media
Social stratification is the categorization of people based on a number of socioeconomic factors. Social stratification may lead to social inequality because some groups of people have more access to resources, power, and status than others. We can see examples of social stratification and inequality in many television shows, movies, or documentaries.
In this assignment, you will watch a production and describe the social stratification and inequality that you observe.
Watch 30–60 minutes of a production from current media that illustrates examples of social stratification and inequalities, such as a recent sitcom, drama, movie, or documentary.
Note: Contact your instructor for approval if you are unsure if a certain media production fits the assignment.
Take notes while you watch to record examples of the behavior patterns that reflect social stratification and inequality.
Write a 350- to 500-word paper in which you discuss the show or film as it relates to race, gender, and social class stratification. Do the following:
Describe the show or film you selected, including a brief summary of the plot and setting of the story.
Describe at least 2 examples of social inequalities that you observed. Which social structures or norms could have contributed to these inequalities?
Explain the theoretical perspective—functionalism, conflict theory, or symbolic interactionism—that you used to explain the social inequalities. Explain your reasons for choosing this perspective.
Describe the connections between the social stratification of class, race, and gender you observed in the show or film and the ways that it represents inequality in our society. -

“The Ramifications of 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis: Examining the Supreme Court’s Decision and its Impact on Private Businesses and Discrimination Laws”
Hi Class, Recently, the US Supreme Court issued its decision in the case of 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis. By a 6-3 vote, the Court has created a carve out to public state accommodation laws that bar discrimination based on sexual orientation. The Court ruled that a proclaimed Christian graphic artist who wants to design wedding websites can refuse to work with same-sex couples. The Court created this exception on the basis of 1st Amendment free speech. Summaries of this Court decision (including the full Court opinion) can be found in the links below. For a possible (3) points extra credit, please answer the following questions:
1. What potential ramifications does this decision have on businesses? Does this open the door for private businesses to legally discriminate against other protected classes of people?
2. Based on this decision, can the tables be turned – can a private business such as a lawyer refuse to represent a client based on their political orientation? For example, if a lawyer finds individuals who identify as MAGA to be adverse to their personal beliefs, and as their work involves the business of speech, can the lawyer expressly decline cases purely on the basis of political affiliation? 3. Does your answer in question #2 change if the facts are revised such that the lawyer refuses to represent any clients whose religious beliefs differ from those of the lawyer?

“The Future of Criminal Justice and Human Behavior: A Critique of Sapolsky’s Arguments”
http://www.sackett.net/sapolsky_behave.pdf
At this point in the semester, you have read, written,
and thought much about the vast variety of influences on human behavior that scientists have recorded across many
different scientific disciplines. You have finished Sapolsky’s text, and in the last two chapters
(Chs. 16 & 17), he has laid out two important arguments. First, he has
articulated an argument regarding his view of both the criminal justice system,
and human free will – specifically, what we need to do to reform criminal justice
in light of his position on free will. Second, he has offered his view of the
future of human behavior regarding whether humans progressively move toward our
best behaviors or our worst behaviors.
What you must do is write an essay
that accomplishes two things:
First you must
summarize, in your own words, what Sapolsky has to say in these two main
arguments. His first argument, regarding the future of criminal justice is the
more complex, and is boiled down to three main things. In Part 1, make sure you
clearly summarize all three. Sapolsky’s second argument about his view of the
future of human behavior can be boiled down a little more succinctly, so just
include that in Part 3.
Second, for each of the two arguments he makes, you must articulate your
thoughts in response to his arguments. If you disagree with him, you must
formulate an argument against his argument, supported by at least two pieces of
reputable scientific evidence (that Sapolsky cites in the text, or that you
find in a peer-reviewed journal outside of the text). If you agree with him,
you must formulate an argument in support of his argument, again supported by
at least two pieces of reputable scientific evidence. Again, you will write two
arguments, in support of or in opposition to Sapolsky’s arguments. In Part 2,
you will make your argument about criminal justice reform. In Part 3, you will
make your argument about your view of the future of human behavior. Each argument
must be supported by two pieces of evidence sourced outside of Sapolsky’s text.
I’ve broken these tasks into three parts, because I want you to spend an
equal amount of time and an equal amount of writing on each of those three parts. Do your best to
construct this like a coherent single essay that covers these three main areas. Also, do your best to
format it according to the guidelines of APA style, with no title page or abstract, but with a
references list at the end in APA style. Your essay should be at least 500 and
no more than 750 words.
Questions that your essay will answer
Part 1
We now come to one of the core arguments of the entire book. Sapolsky argues
that science will progressively narrow or eliminate the dominion of free will –
which, by this point, is no surprise. The question is, under those
circumstances, how can the criminal justice system be reformed in a way that
reflects this knowledge? a) Briefly Summarize the three things (easy,
near-impossible, and challenging) that Sapolsky argues should be done.
Part 2
Describe your own thoughts on each (of the three things that Sapolsky
argues should be
done).
Part 3
Make an argument regarding your view of the future of human behavior. a)
Specifically address whether humans are more likely to move toward more of our
best behaviors, or toward more of our worst behaviors. b) Support your argument
with at least two pieces of evidence that are either from the texts assigned
for this class – or evidence that comes from other reputable sources (e.g., peer-reviewed articles, or books like Behave that review the
evidence from such articles and make arguments regarding them).
I have attached a link for the online pdf version of the book “Behave” by Robert M. Sapolsky.
This essay will be based solely on chapters 16 & 17 from that book. Apart from the book, 2
other outside sources are required for this essay. So that means 3 sources in total. Thank
you. -

Draw on the readings from this class to describe and assess at least three different theories of development and under-development. Explain what each theory does well, and what it fails to explain or account for. You may ground your essay by describing the development process in a specific country, and assessing how well different theories do in explaining your country’s trajectory; or you may write a more general account of the strengths and weaknesses of different theories.
Your essay will comprise of around 2000 words (maximum), excluding the bibliography. (Note +/- 10% of the word count is acceptable.)
Remember that you MUST have a thesis statement and therefore an argument.
For this essay, you can only use the assigned course material. Please do not use any outside sources.
You may also refer to the lectures in your paper, but IN ADDITION TO – not instead of – citing the readings
