Assignment 4: Stock Valuation and Risk Assessment
Assignment Overview
For this assignment, Questions 1 and 3 are computational in nature. Questions 2 and 4 are conceptual questions. So make sure to thoroughly review the required background readings and make sure you understand the material at a conceptual level and also understand the steps involved in the computations.
Case Assignment
Please download the Case 3 Template. You will type your answers into this document. Save the document with your last name and submit to the dropbox. Note that you will get partial credit if you show your work even if the answers are incorrect.
Using a dividend discount model, what is the value of a stock that pays an annual dividend of $5 that is not expected to grow and the discount rate is 10%? What will be the value of the stock if the dividend is expected to grow 5% per year?
Explain whether each of the following is systematic or unsystematic risk using references to the required background readings:
There is a large recession.
It is discovered that a company lied about its earnings and it is not nearly as profitable as they claimed.
The CEO of a successful company gets arrested for some serious crimes, and the company has trouble finding a good replacement.
Use the CAPM to calculate the following:
The expected return of a stock with a beta of 2, and risk-free rate of 1%, and a market return of 7%.
The beta if the expected return of the stock is 8%, the risk-free rate is 2%, and the market rate of return is 6%.
Do you think the following companies would have a high, low, or average beta? Explain your answer using references from the background readings and your knowledge of CAPM and beta:
The ACME Umbrella company’s stock goes up a lot when it rains, but goes down when it is sunny. Nothing else but the weather seems to impact ACME’s stock price.
Vultures, Inc., specializes in buying assets of bankrupt companies at a discount. Vultures’ stock price seems to go up whenever other companies are doing poorly and going bankrupt, but goes down when other companies are doing well and they have few bankrupt companies to prey on.
Unoriginal, Inc., can never decide what products they want to focus on so they make many different products in several different industries. They also invest much of their profits into 100 or so other companies that are listed on the stock exchange.

Title: Uncovering the Root of Carol’s Ailment in Todd Haynes’ Safe
For this assignment, at the practical level, we will be demonstrating our skills in heuristic analysis, evaluating and organizing source material, crafting a focused, cogent argument, and building an effective intertextual essay.
We have explored prominent personal and social issues related to health and well-being from a variety of critical perspectives. For this written assignment, we will be applying our analytical abilities to a work of fiction: Todd Haynes’ 1995, Safe, starring Julianne Moore as Carol White.
As the film presents them, Carol’s health troubles are the product of no single influence but rather the accumulation of long-term exposure to multiple toxic byproducts of modern life. Or are they? What are some of the influences we are led to understand have so negatively influenced Carol’s well-being? Does the story suggest her ailment is in her mind or her body? Maybe somewhere else entirely? We might even connect Carol’s distress to the race issues we have explored via Barr and Bowen Matthew. (After all, her name is Carol White.)
As far as supportive material, it’s up to you to decide which ideas best fit your understanding of the film. You can talk definitions of health and healing, social hierarchies or racial influences on who gets what kind of care in this country. There is even room to discuss alternative medicine and the models of health beyond science. So as you watch, be thinking how you would account for the health-related messages in the film.
Prompt: Once you have chosen the conceptual focus of your analysis, respond to the following prompt in a 3-4 page, thesis-driven essay: What’s ailing Carol?
When talk about the film, quote specifc scenes. -

Part 1: Promoting Quality and Safety Through QSEN Competencies and Systems Thinking Part 2: The Role and Impact of the Food and Drug Administration on Healthcare Quality and Safety
Part 1: QSEN Institute
As we have discussed previously in your program, the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) Institute looks to improve the quality and safety of patient care through education.
Review the QSEN Competencies to remind yourself about how they drive quality by explaining the knowledge, skills, and attitudes nurses need to thrive in a changing healthcare environment. Download the PDF file from the library; it is easier to read, and you can review the tables.
Look at Table 2 in “Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN): The Key Is Systems Thinking” from this week’s University Library Resources. As you review the table, consider the following question:
• Provide a brief explanation of QSEN competencies. How is the systems thinking in the article linked to the work of regulators and accreditors to drive quality and safety?
• Using the QSEN competencies (Table 2), select two competencies and provide examples of how to promote systems thinking to a group of experienced nurses.
• Using the QSEN competencies (Table 2), select two competencies and provide examples of how to promote systems thinking to novice nurses with minimal experience.
Summarize your answer in 350 words.
Part 2:
This assignment is designed to give you a greater understanding of regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies, including their functions, public reporting requirements, and how they impact quality and safety.
