“Strategic Challenges and Solutions for General Electric: A Case Study Analysis”
review CASE 13: Case 13. PDF.pdf
How Do You Solve a Problem Like General Electric?
Remember: A case study is a puzzle to be solved, so before reading and answering the specific case study questions, develop your proposed solution by following these five steps. 1.Read the case study to identify the key and underlying issues that apply to the situation described in the case study.
2. Record the facts from the case study which are relevant to the principles and concepts presented in the slides. The case may have extraneous information not relevant to the slides. Your ability to differentiate between relevant and irrelevant information is an important aspect of case analysis, as it will inform the focus of your answers.
3. Describe in some detail the actions that would address or correct the situation.
4. Consider how you would support your solution with examples from experience or current real-life examples.
5. Complete this initial analysis and then read the discussion questions. Typically, you will already have the answers to the questions but with a broader consideration. At this point, you can add the details and/or analytical tools required to solve the case.
1. What were the key challenges faced by General Electric in the early 2000s, and how did the company respond to these challenges?
2. How did General Electric’s corporate strategy change under the leadership of Jeff Immelt, and what were the implications of these changes for the company’s various business units?
3. What role did divestitures play in General
Electric’s corporate strategy, and how did the company decide which businesses to sell off?
4. How did General Electric allocate resources across its various business units, and what factors influenced these resource allocation decisions?
5. How did General Electric leverage synergies across its different businesses, and what benefits did this approach offer the company?

“The Harmful Facade of Social Media: A Response to Stephanie Ericsson’s ‘The Ways We Lie’” In her essay “The Ways We Lie,” Stephanie Ericsson explores the various forms of deception that we engage in on a daily basis
Your first assignment is a short and hopefully enjoyable assignment. I want you to write a 250-400 word short paper in which you define your own lie in the vein of Stephanie Ericsson’s essay “The Ways We Lie.” You may think of this as a reading response paper to Ericsson’s essay. I want you to cite her essay at least once, using APA style in-text citations, and explain a type of lie that she did not cover. Write an introduction about lying that mentions Ericsson’s essay, define your lie, give examples of it, and describe if you think the lie is harmful or not harmful.
For example—and do not use this one please—“The My Computer Crashed Lie” in which panicked students who forgot to do their English paper write their professor pretending that their computer crashed in the hopes of getting an extension. Your lie can be a broad category of deception that her essay didn’t cover or else a specific type of lie that might or might not fit under one of her terms. The façade of Instagram? The façade of being a nurse? A lie of omission that helps people? Whatever you’d like.
While this short paper can be fun, I do expect it to be proofread. And most importantly this essay needs to be in APA formatting. The grade will be 5 points for the writing and 5 for APA.
Look at this checklist:
Give your essay an original title. Not just “Define a Lie” or “First Paper” but a title specific to your paper.
Include your original title on both the APA title page and above the start of the paper on page 2.
Include a proper APA title page.
Include an APA reference page.
Proofread and spellcheck.

“The Parthenon Marble Debate: Should the Elgin Marbles Stay in the British Museum or Be Repatriated to Greece?”
Your final paper must be at least 5 typed, double-spaced pages (approx. 1250 words).
In this paper you must take a position on the issue of the potential repatriation of the Parthenon Marble Statues (known as the Elgin Marbles), currently residing in the British Museum, back to Greece. (In other words, you should be arguing whether the statues should stay in the British Museum or be sent back to Athens, Greece).
You must craft an argument based on evidence, which can include the authority of experts in the field. This is NOT an opinion-based paper.
You are required to draw upon and cite a total of FOUR sources.
Remember, this is NOT a forum in which to express your personal opinion on the matter. Rather, you’ll be creating a logical, rational argument, based on evidence (that you have examined critically for assumptions, bias, etc.), from which you draw a conclusion. One way to think of this is that you are playing the part of a lawyer arguing your side in court.
