  • “Utilizing SPSS for Data Analysis in a Quality Improvement Project: A Case Study on Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections”

    Assignment Description:
    Data Analysis
There are many resources available for data analysis. The resources you use will depend, in large part, on the type of data you have and the decisions that must be made based on that data, and the question you are seeking to answer. This assignment is designed to provide you with a basic understanding of one method for running your analysis by using IBM’s SPSS Statistics software.
You are not being asked to purchase this software. You will only need to download a free trial of SPSS for this course. This version of SPSS is only to be used to review, demonstrate, and evaluate IBM SPSS Statistics Software for purchase considerations later. Your trial period is only for 14 days, so you must use good judgment in when to download it and complete the assignment. You will find this link in the additional materials under digital software resources.
Please see the additional video tutorials in the additional resources.
    Quality Improvement Scenario:
You are a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) entrepreneur at your clinical practice location; you have identified an area for improvement. The rate of catheter infections is high in one of your units. After reviewing the last two months of infection rates you realize that many of the patients on the floor would qualify for intermittent catheterization vs. an indwelling catheter. For this specific population, you take the initiative to pilot a policy change based on current Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) recommendations and follow a policy targeting intermittent catheterization use. Your quality improvement (QI) project aims to decrease the number of Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI).
For data analysis, you will need to evaluate two entities.
The staff’s understanding of the education by conducting a pre and post-test.
A Retrospective data collection, looking at two months before and two months after implementing the policy change.
For the purposes of this assignment’s data analysis, you will be evaluating the effectiveness of your teaching.

What was your standard deviation? Explain your findings: the appropriateness of the deviation and did it fall into a normal distribution.
Explain what the T-test is and how it would be used. Would it be applicable to the data that you are running? Or would it be more of a good fit for comparing the pre and post of your implementation findings? Explain your rationale.
