For a 16-year-old boy out in the world alone for the first time, every day’s an education in the hard work and boredom of migrant labor; every day teaches him something more about friendship, or hunger, or profanity, or lust—always lust. He learns how a poker game, or hitching a ride, can turn deadly. He discovers the secret sadness and generosity to be found on a lonely farm in the middle of nowhere. Then he joins up with a carnival and becomes a grunt, running a ride and shilling for the geek show. He’s living the hard carny life and beginning to see the world through carny eyes. He’s tough. Cynical. By the end of the summer he’s pretty sure he knows it all. Until he meets Ruby.

“Paper I: Study One Literature Review – APA Formatting and Tips”
DO NOT I MEAN DO NOT USE AI TO WRITE THIS PAPER PLEASE . I WILL NEED THE FIRST PAGE OF THE PAPER BY TUESDAY THE 14TH FOR REVIEW THANK YOU.
Paper Writing Hints: For
Paper I, start the paper broadly and then narrow your focus (think about the
hourglass example provided in the lecture). My suggestion is to give a brief
overview of your paper topic in your opening paragraph, hinting at the research
variables that you plan to look at for study one. Your next paragraphs will
review prior research (that is, the five references required for this paper).
Make sure that you draw connections between these references rather than just
listing them. Use smooth transitions between paragraphs and build a case that
supports your study predictions. Your final paragraphs will use the research
you just summarized to support your hypothesis. And yes, that means you MUST
include your study one predictions in Paper I (which we provided in the
researcher instructions, the debriefing statement, and at the end of these
instructions. Use those predictions! They go at the end of your Paper I). Another
good hint is to look at the literature reviews of the articles that you are
using as references as you write your own paper! See what those authors did in
their literature reviews and mimic their literature review style. Keep in mind
that Paper I will end with your hypothesis (and your references) rather than
moving directly into your study methods. In Paper II, you will pick the topic
up again and discuss your study methods, results, and discussion. Paper I thus merely
leads up to your study one.
2). The APA formatting purpose The second purpose of
Paper I: Study One Literature Review is to teach you proper American
Psychological Association (APA) formatting. In the instructions below, I will tell
you how to format your paper using APA style. There are a lot of very specific
requirements in APA papers, so pay attention to the instructions below as well
as your APA Formatting PowerPoint presentation! Keep in mind that the research methods
classes at FIU now use the 7th edition of the APA formatting manual.
Note #2: The plagiarism limit for Paper I is
30% (assessed by turn-it-in within Canvas). This excludes any overlap your
paper might have regarding citations, references, and hypotheses. Make sure
your paper falls under 30%
5 CITATIONS ARE TO BE INCLUDED
1.
APA reference page formatting:
a.
The
References section starts on its own
page, with the word References
centered and in bold font. Use proper
APA format here (or lose points!)
2.
Number of required references: All five
references that you cited in the literature review must be in the
reference section (if you cited more than five articles, then there should be
more than five references, which is fine in this paper).
a.
Remember,
at least three references must come from the Canvas article folder, one can
come from either Canvas or library resources (PsycInfo), while the last one cannot
come from Canvas. Only peer-reviewed articles are allowed for Paper I (no
books, journals, websites, or other secondary resources).
b.
References
and citations must align. That is, if you cite something, I expect to see a
reference for it. If you have a reference for something, I expect to see a
citation for it. -
“Exploring the Utopian ‘Other World’ Genre: A Comparative Analysis of Diverse Perspectives in Science Fiction Literature”
Choose from the following essay suggestions. You may create your own topic, with approval, if you consult me before April. You must use secondary sources appropriate to your topic in both focus and quantity. Your paper should demonstrate a grasp of both the primary text(s) you choose to write on and the critical materials available. This means that you must show an understanding of the reliability of critical materials, how to find scholarly criticism, and an ability to judge whether a work is dated or current. While some topics will have more or less critical materials available than others, you must include TWO sources from FDU’s Online Library as a minimum—papers that do not demonstrate familiarity with the Online Library resources will not receive a grade. You may also wish to consider biographical materials, letters, print history, journals, or other such sources as well. Your essay will be 7-8 pages, not including cover page and bibliography, and in MLA format.
The utopian “other world” genre is typically traced from Thomas Moore’s Utopia to the present. In what ways do you see an author we have read changing or refocusing the genre for their ownunique purposes, or to what degree is their work typical of genre fiction? By using specific information from the text and secondary critical resources, do you see their work as mainstream pulp fiction or as a challenge to the dominant social norms of her time?
Please write down your responses to these three questions on a seperate page or seperate document
Three questions will comprise the examination: () a defense of your final project, () discussing your final essay’s topic or approach in relation to a different text or paradigm, and () a comparison of two course readings.
