“Breaking the Silence: A Call to Action Against Domestic Violence”
Positionality Statement:
I want to make it clear where I stand when it comes to domestic violence. I am an educated White/Hispanic, lower class, cisgender, straight female. I am a strong advocate and oppose all forms of domestic violence. Because it goes against basic human rights and treats people unfairly. I drew inspiration for this research paper from my own experience. I was a victim of domestic violence growing up. Due to my experiences and research, I know that domestic violence is not about physical abuse. It can also be emotional, psychological, sexual, or financial. It happens when one person uses power over another to control or harm them. This is wrong and harmful, and it happens too often. It especially happens to certain groups. My research paper covers certain groups. These groups include women, children, LGBTQ+ people, and those with disabilities in the USA. I have seen many forms of domestic violence. Many instances exist where victims silence themselves and do not seek help. We need to prevent this from happening. We need to support survivors of domestic violence. In a way that puts their safety and empowerment first. This means giving them access to help and services they need. We need to change the systems and attitudes that allow domestic violence to continue. We must listen to survivors, challenge harmful beliefs, and work together. We need to create communities where everyone feels safe and respected. This involves educating people about healthy relationships, consent, and respect. It also means standing up against injustice where we see it. I’m committed to fighting domestic violence by providing essential information through my research. -

Reflecting on Decision Making in Small Groups Title: Reflecting on Decision Making in Small Groups
VERVIEW:
The goal of this assignment is to reflect back on the ways in which you have made group decisions in the past in the various groups that you are a part of in your life. We rarely take the time to think about the ways in which we make decisions and how these decisions might have been improved by a different decision making process. In Chapters 9-10, your textbook discusses many different decision making processes (i.e., majority vote, leader-led with consultation, etc.). I want you to think about situations where you have used these and how the final decision resulted in either a successful decision or one that you thought was the poor choice.
ESSAY STRUCTURE & DELIVERABLES
Formatting:
800 words (2-3 pages double spaced)
1-inch margins
Times New Roman font
12 pt. font
Double-spaced
Word count in the heading
Please bold key terms in the paper
Use paragraphs. Every new idea/3-5 sentences should have a new paragraph with it.
Content, please include the following:
A brief introductory paragraph that previews and summarizes your main ideas
2. A description of your “go-to” decision making strategies. In this section of the paper, I want you to describe 1-2 decision making strategies in a small group that you are (or were) a part of. Please do not use your taskforce as an example because your third reflection paper will ask you about your group work for this class. Briefly describe the group and then discuss how you utilized a specific decision making strategy. For example, you might have used majority vote to decide where to eat with your friends last weekend, but you need to provide how, where, when, and what did it look like to decide by majority vote. Be detailed.
3. Evaluation of your decision making strategies. Discuss how the strategies you just mentioned have benefitted or harmed your small group and decision making in small groups. Were these approaches successful? In this section, I want you to discuss an additional approach that would (or could have) been a better way to make the decision in your small group and WHY. This section should be an analysis and not a description. Why did one strategy not work? What are the constraints of these different strategies and how have you experienced that?
4. Conclusion. In the last paragraph, identify one strategy that you haven’t used much, but that you think will be an effective strategy moving forward in your small groups.
Please put all key terms from the course in BOLD so that I can see where you are referencing course material. Do not put your name on the paper as I will grade it anonymously. -

“Collaboration in Emergency Management: The Key to Effective Disaster Response and Recovery”
An integral part to dealing with the issues that arise within the field of Emergency Management is learning how to collaborate and work together—whether it be within an organization or in the context of multiple departments, organizations, states, or nations. This project seeks to bolster the students understanding of EMDS with a focus on the interpersonal skills necessary for collaboration in action.
Within the content of your paper, this research project must include the background and introduction to the selected topic and connect it to how different entities (organizations, government departments, community members, etc.) work together during disastrous times (can focus in on during one of the four phases or in general). An example of a paper topic you might choose could be “Interagency Collaboration and Tribal Emergency Management” or “The Role of Local Government in Addressing Climate Change” or “The Importance of Mutual Aid and Resource Management in the 2022 Wildfires”: you get the picture!
This research paper is to be a Word Document 5-6 pages, double-spaced, in Times New Roman or Arial 11-12pt font. A reference page for all evidence, citations, and quotations will be required at the end of the paper, that of which is not included within the length requirement.
