Literature Search and Evaluation Literature Search and Evaluation: A Systematic Review for Evidence-Based Nursing Practice “Collective Analysis of Three Primary Sources/Original Studies Related to a PICOT Question: A Critical Appraisal of Quantitative and Qualitative Research”
This assignment will aide you in organizing your thoughts, and in collecting research/studies which address your PICOT question. Your systematic review begins by strategically conducting a literature search, literature evaluation, and literature analysis.
Submitting this assignment will aide you in addressing course outcomes:
#1 – Evaluate the basic elements of the research process and models for employing evidence in clinical practice.
#2 – Justify credible resources of evidence relevant to nursing practice.
Link here Download herefor the Literature Search Strategy, CRAAP test, Evaluation of Literature assignment template.
There are four (4) graded portions to this assignment:
Literature search strategy
CRAAP Test
Evaluation of literature- summary & analysis (table and APA 7th ed. summaries and analysis)
Upload primary studies
Portion 1: Literature search strategy
The literature search strategy portion is an organized method to help you find research studies applicable to your PICOT question. The organization of key terms used to search will help you to retrieve accurate results. Begin your search broadly, looking for as many studies as you can in as many databases as you can, then begin to narrow your search down by using inclusion and exclusion criteriaLinks to an external site., or boolean operators.Links to an external site. You will also narrow your focus with primary resources. Your final systematic review paper should have ten (10) or more scholarly research studies utilized and referenced throughout your paper.
Primary resources contain first-hand information, meaning that you are reading the author’s own account on a specific topic or event that s/he participated in. Examples of primary resources include scholarly research studies, books, and diaries. Primary sources such as research studies/original research often do not explain terminology and theoretical principles in detail.
Secondary sources describe, summarize, or discuss information or details originally presented in another source; meaning the author, in most cases, did not participate in the research event. This type of source is written for a broad audience and will include definitions of discipline specific terms, history relating to the topic, significant theories and principles, and summaries of major studies/events as related to the topic. Use secondary sources to obtain an overview of a topic and/or identify primary resources.
Answer all of the questions posed in the literature search.
Portion 2: CRAAP Test
The CRAAP test is a method to evaluate the Currency, Relevance, Authority, Accuracy, and Purpose of the primary sources/original studies/research you find to address your PICOT question.
Conduct a CRAAP Test on two (2) primary sources/original studies/research you retrieved during the literature search process. Respond to the criteria questions found in the left column with full sentences in the right column before rating the research study.
Portion 3: Evaluation of literature- summary & analysis (table and APA 7th ed. summaries and analysis)
Restate your PICOT question
Using APA 7th ed. format, type in the references for the three primary sources/original studies related to the same strategy from your PICOT question. Following APA format (alphabetical, line spacing, indents, italics, doi, etc) Use 3 primary sources/original studies not used in the CRAAP portion
Using the three primary sources/original studies, complete the table (Study author’s/date-Study location, population & sample size-Type of study conducted/level of evidence-Identify strengths and weaknesses of the study-Identify the significance of the study ). Full sentences are not required.
Summary and analysis – in APA 7th ed. format (font, font size, line spacing), write out a summary for each primary source/original study/research in its own paragraph (1 paragraph for each primary sources/original studies/research).
In a fourth paragraph compare/analyze the three primary sources/original studies/research collectively for their similarities, strengths and weaknesses, for the meaning of the study/research findings as they relate to your PICOT question.
In this portion, you are breaking down the three primary source/original study/research related to the same strategy. You may decide to use (or not) these primary source/original study/research in the writing of your systematic review analysis/evaluation of literature section (here you CAN NOT use meta-analysis, systematic reviews, or a review source). Your summaries should provide an overview of what the primary source/original study/research was trying to examine: the problem, the objective of the study/research, the sample size, the population, the study location, the methods, the assessment tool, and the findings. Make sure to cite APA 7th ed. format, the researchers name/date. You should include information/data specific to the source, creating a ‘picture’ of the study.
Questions you want to consider when collectively analyzing the studies are: What are the studies distinctive features as a group? What is each hypothesis, similar? What previous research findings does this study build upon? Were the sample sizes similar? Were the data collection methods similar? Were the findings similar? What do you think is most important or effective regarding the research/arguments? What limitations do you see in the research or argument? That is, what counter-claims or arguments can you make in response to the study? Can you cluster?

Research ONE example of a conic section in real life.
Tell us in your own words about your find. Do not just make this up off the top of your head. The St Louis Arch, for example, is NOT a parabola—it is an inverted catenary.
To get credit for this Discussion, you must cite a source confirming that your example is, indeed, a conic and not some other more exotic curve.
Using a personal example (My eyebrow) will not count unless you can cite a source verifying that eyebrows are parabolic. -
