What type of activities were taking place?
What safety concerns would you have?
What did you notice about the diversity of the classroom?
Second Develop a Lesson Plan
Modify a lesson plan for students with special needs. An inclusive classroom comprised of regular education students as well as special education students. The video illustrated several ways the teacher modified activities (games) to insure that all students (including students with special needs) would be successful and enjoy the activity. Construct a lesson plan for a physical activity that you would use with your elementary class. The focus of this activity is to indicate how you would MODIFY the lesson or activity to insure that all students are successful. Modifying an activity such as volleyball where students use a beach ball that moves more slowly and is larger than a regulation volleyball is but one example. In addition to describing the lesson (activity) you plan to teach you will include a minimum of three modifications (strategies) that you would employ to modify a lesson to insure success by all students.

Title: Exploring Inverse Variation and Other Types of Variation in Real Life Situations
The variable is in the bottom of a fraction or in the denominator. (The Opposite of Direct Variation) In an inverse variation, the values of the two variables change in an opposite manner – as one value increases, the other decreases. For example, a biker traveling at 8 mph can cover 8 miles in 1 hour. If the biker’s speed decreases to 4 mph, it will take the biker 2 hours (an increase of one hour), to cover the same distance.
Please start by addressing one or more of the following topics to get the discussion going:
How would you describe the difference between direct variation and joint variation in words? Use examples to help illustrate.
Pick a field of study of interest to you and give an example of variation in that field. Some possible areas to consider are: Economics, Finance, Geometry and Physics. Example: If your hourly pay rate is $15/hour, then your weekly pay p is given by the formula p=15h where h is the number of hours worked in a week. So, your weekly pay varies directly as the number of hours worked in a week with the constant of variation = 15.
Most formulas are actually examples of variation. Pick a well-known formula and describe the type of variation as well as the constant of variation, k. Example: The area A of a triangle with base b and height h is given by the formula A=½bh. So, the area of a triangle varies jointly as the base and height (both direct) with the constant of variation = ½.
Share a favorite recipe; a) Triple the recipe; b) Take 1/2 of the tripled recipe.
Give an example from real life where composite functions are utilized. For ideas, you may look it up on the internet or find examples in the book. -
“Ethical Dilemmas: Exploring the Intersection of Ethics and Religion”
Read/review the following resources for this activity:
Textbook: Chapters 3, 4
Lesson
Minimum of 2 scholarly sources (in addition to the textbook)
Instructions
Review the following ethical dilemmas:
John Doe has decided to clone himself. He is sterile. He cannot find anyone to marry him. He wishes to have children. He knows that he will not be able to love a child that is adopted or not connected directly to him biologically. He will be making use of a new procedure that involves taking his skin cells to produce a twin. The twin starts out as an embryo and grows into a child. The child in this case will have the same genetic information as John Doe. John Doe and his child will be twins.
Jane Doe is eighteen. For as long as she can remember she has been sexually attracted to other females. Her parents belong to a religion that has a religious text stating that God forbids one to be a lesbian. This religion goes on further to say that lesbians will be punished in the afterlife. Jane Doe is debating whether she should tell her parents about her sexual attraction. She has not yet decided if she should come out to her parents and live as a lesbian now that she is a legal adult.
Joe and Mary are a couple. Before becoming sterile, they had a child. This child died of a rare disease. Joe and Mary miss their child terribly. They have heard that there is a new IVF procedure that can ensure that they can have another child. However, their religion forbids using IVF.
Use the resources assigned for this week and additional research,
Select two of the situations above and then address 2 of the following:
What is the relation between ethics and religion? Formulate and investigate the relation.
For each case, determine the ethical path of conduct. Then, determine what paths of conduct would be unethical
For each case, what would an emotivism say to appraise what you determine is the ethical form of conduct?
For each case, would a natural law ethicist agree with what you say is the ethical form of conduct? Why or why not?
Articulate, explain, and evaluate in each case an approach that makes use of divine command ethics.
Requirements
Length: 2-3 pages (not including title page or references page)
1-inch margins
Double spaced
12-point Times New Roman font
Title page
References page (minimum of 2 scholarly sources)
Grading
This activity will be graded based on the rubric provided.
Outcomes
CO 2: Examine the relation between ethics and religion via a valuation of divine command and natural law ethics as ways of determining the morality of actions
CO 3: Argue the importance of subjectivity in ethics and interpret the significance of emotivism as an explanation of moral propositions. -
“Joint Probability Density Function for Promoted Executives with Different Marital Statuses”
. A group of 9 executives of a certain firm include 4 who are married, 3 who never married, and 2 who are divorced. Three of the executives are to be selected for promotion. Let X denote the number of married executives and Y the number of never married executives among the 3 selected for promotion. Title: “Maritime Threats and Countermeasures: Protecting Against WMD Terrorism in the Age of Technological Advancements”
Ninety percent of the goods transported around the Earth are moved by oil tankers and container vessels that travel our oceans. Crews get smaller and ships get larger as the industry adopts automation, remote monitoring, and remote navigational systems, all of which can be cyber-attacked. Researchers from the University of Texas verified that it was possible to change a ship’s direction by simulating a GPS signal to target a ship’s onboard navigation system. Imagine this scenario: A shipping container filled with chemical or biological weapons is stowed in the hold of a cargo ship, which is caused to run aground in a major U.S. port (e.g., Boston, New Orleans, or Los Angeles). There, the weapon is detonated remotely by terrorists.
Case Assignment
Examine and discuss the critically growing maritime threats brought about by advances in technology. Cite specific examples.
Outline potential countermeasures to protect both ports and ships from involuntarily participating in a WMD terrorist attack. In fact, you may find yourself inventing a countermeasure that does not exist today!
U.S. Coast Guard is only able to respond to approximately 30 percent of coastal emergencies. Today U.S. Coast Guard conducts U.S. port security assessments and analyzes security risk. Would the U.S. Coast Guard resources be better served if the local and state police departments take over this task, and permit the U.S. Coast Guard to focus on sea-based security risk emergency events? Provide an argument for and against this change. -
