Within the Discussion Board area, write 300–500 words that respond to the following questions with your thoughts, ideas, and comments. This will be the foundation for future discussions by your classmates. Be substantive and clear, and use examples to reinforce your ideas.
For this Discussion Board, please complete the following:
The old saying that first impressions are everlasting could not be more accurate for customer service professionals. Perceptions and feelings form within the first few minutes of engaging with customers. It can be the word choice, tone of voice, facial expression, or listening ability that could be a challenge. The message may not always come across to the customer as intended.
Because of the complexity of human behavior, customer service professionals should recognize the difference in customer service styles (i.e., rational, inquisitive, decisive, and expressive) when dealing with customers.
Review the following article for more information on customer service styles:
The Four Customer Service Styles
Understanding customer service styles can help build effective communication and improve your relationship with customers.
Discuss the following with your classmates:
What role do the customer service styles play in building excellent customer service?
What communication challenges might you have when engaging a customer who has a different style from your own?

Title: “The Divine Ambition of Hamlet: A Close Reading of Act IV, Scene iv”
From Hamlet (IV. iv. 32-66):
Witness this army of such mass and charge
Led by a delicate and tender prince,
Whose spirit with divine ambition puff’d
Makes mouths at the invisible event,
Exposing what is mortal and unsure
To all that fortune, death and danger dare,
Even for an egg-shell. Rightly to be great
Is not to stir without great argument,
But greatly to find quarrel in a straw
When honour’s at the stake.
Analyze your chosen passage, paying close
attention to the language and literary devices used in it. You should be answering the following questions:
What is the author doing here? How is the author doing it?
What is the significance of your observations (as relates to the theme of the passage or text as a whole, but also to our study of tragedy)?
You may discuss the passage in the context of the larger work, but please concentrate primarily on the passage itself.
You will need a clear and challenging thesis around which to build your essay (see handout on the Three Storey Thesis in Handouts under the Content tab). A good approach in this case is to take your answers to the questions above and use them to formulate a thesis. For example, your answer to “what is the author doing here?” would be the argument of your thesis (second storey); your answer to “how is the author doing it?” would be the topic of your thesis (first storey); and your answer to “what is the significance of your observations?” would be the
significance of your thesis (third storey).
The paper must also have an introduction, a body of supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion. Please underline the thesis as well as the topic sentences of each of the paragraphs in the body of the essay. You must reference all quotations and include a Works Cited (listing the text to which the passage belongs and any modules from which you draw information; you should use no other secondary sources). Please use MLA format in your in-text citations and bibliography.
Specifically, I will evaluate this assignment based on the following elements: 1) your ability to perform a close reading of a short segment of text (i.e., to construct a convincing argument about the passage based specifically on your analysis of the language and theme of the passage itself as they relate to tragedy); 2) your ability to isolate at least one important idea in the passage and intelligently discuss its thematic importance; 3) the ability to express yourself clearly and coherently in English. -

Read the scenario:
John is a young and ambitious student attending a Tourism and Hospitality networking event for the first time. He is eager to meet new people and make connections, but he is also nervous about making mistakes. John arrives at the event early and stands awkwardly in the corner, unsure what to do. He sees a group of people talking and laughing, and he decides to join them. However, as soon as he approaches the group, they go silent and stare at him. John feels uncomfortable and quickly retreats back to his corner.
After a few minutes, John finally converses with a woman named Sarah. Sarah is a travel agent, and John is eager to learn more about her business. However, he starts talking about himself without allowing Sarah to speak. Sarah becomes bored and disengaged, and she eventually excuses herself to talk to someone else. John is determined to make the most of the event. He approaches with a serious face, another person named Jim. John introduces himself and immediately asks the person if they are hiring. Jim, being nice, responds that he is not sure and excuses himself, leaving the conversation. John spends the rest of the event awkwardly mingling with people, but he makes no meaningful connections. He leaves the event feeling frustrated and discouraged.
Answer the Question in Paragraph form:
1. What are all the things John did wrong at the Tourism and hospitality networking event?
2. What could John have done better to network successfully?

“The Abacus: A Timeless Tool for Mathematical Computation and Problem-Solving”
Some cultures developed quite ingenious tools and systems to help with calculations. One of the
most familiar is the abacus, developed around 3000BC in Mesopotamia and still used in some
eastern cultures. The abacus began life as a board or slab covered in sand, used in ancient
Babylon for aligning numbers or writing; it later developed into a board with lines or grooves
for counters. The modern abacus with counters threaded onto rods or wires requires more
technological advancement to produce but is used in much the same way.
This essay project aims to introduce your students to the ancient tool of the abacus and its
applications in understanding various mathematical concepts. You will write how you and your
students will learn to perform arithmetic operations, manipulate number systems, and explore
mathematical patterns using the abacus. You should also provide a history of the abacus and its
modern use. This essay project will not include hands-on workshops where students will receive
training in using the abacus efficiently.
Your essay project will not engage in activities such as converting between different number
systems (e.g., decimal, binary) and solving arithmetic problems using the abacus. However, you
should integrate elements of algebra into the learning process so students can learn to solve
equations and explore algebraic properties using the abacus. Remember to explore the
connection between the concepts we learned, such as prime numbers, magic squares, arithmetic
operations, geometry, uncovering hidden patterns and relationships, and how using an abacus
can teach mathematics.
Write your essay project with Alex Bellos’ knowledge of using an abacus. You must use at leastsix quotes from Alex Bellos’ book to validate your findings. You must use three additional
references after the year 2014 to validate your findings. Your essay should develop proficiency in using the abacus as a powerful mathematical computation and problem-solving tool. -
Title: “A Tale of Two Essays: A Comparison of Narrative and Comparison/Contrast Writing”
ASSIGNMENT: Write a 3-4 page (approximately 700-1000 words) comparison/contrast essay in the informative mode. In addition, you must answer the “Think About Your Writing” questions, described below, beneath your essay.
Answer these questions
Did you use the point-by-point or block method to organize your body paragraphs? What made you decide to organize your essay in this way? (3-4 sentences) Sophia says: Consider the ways a comparison/contrast essay can be organized. Which organization did you choose and why?
In what ways did writing a comparison/contrast essay differ from the narrative essay you wrote in Touchstone 1? Give specific examples. (3-4 sentences) Sophia says: Consider how the structure, point of view, and purpose of the two essays differ.
Remember that the writing process is a recursive process, and your first draft of an essay is rarely your last. What part of the draft did you struggle with? (3-4 sentences) Sophia says: Think about how you could improve the draft if you continued the writing process with revision and editing. -
