Exam Content
Teachers provide student support to ELs in a variety of ways. Part of this support comes from following requirements for English learner programs, including eligibility processes, placement in programs, assessment standards and progress monitoring, and rights for stakeholders. Knowledge of these requirements helps teachers ensure multilingual students are receiving appropriate support along their educational journey.
Scenario
Visualize a school that has had an influx of multilingual students in the past month. Due to that, you and other teachers in your school have had an increase in meetings with families to explain your EL program and the process students will follow to enter the program, receive instruction, and exit the program. You want to ensure these families understand the student support, and providing them with an infographic will help clarify that process. For this scenario, assume that after you create the infographic in English, your school will have it translated into other languages and that a translator will be present at every EL meeting.
Preparation
Review the following chapters of Ch. 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 of the English Learner Tool Kit from the U.S. Department of Education:
Ch. 1, “Identifying All English Learner Students”
Ch. 3, “Staffing and Supporting an EL Program”
Ch. 4, “Meaningful Access to Core Curricular, Extra Curricular Programs”
Ch. 6, “Addressing English Learners with Disabilities”
Ch. 7, “Serving English Learners Who Opt Out of EL Programs”
Ch. 8, “Monitoring and Exiting English Learners from EL Programs and Services”
Assessment Deliverable
Create an infographic in which you address the following:
Procedures for identifying and admitting EL students, including:
Eligibility
Testing
Family/guardian rights and consent options
EL program description and placement procedures, including:
Yearly testing requirement
Time allocations for support by proficiency level
Benefits of the program
Additional services students may qualify for (e.g., speech, special education, gifted education)
The procedures for exiting students who are proficient and progress monitoring them after they exit
Consider creating your infographic using Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides, Canva, or another infographic application as approved by your faculty member.
Cite sources and images used in your infographic.
Format citations and references according to APA guidelines.
Submit your infographic.

I. Thesis
Statement
Pregnancy and the teenage years are a big challenge for
teenagers and the health system; this work requires specialized nursing care
and professional support.
II.Introduction
to Teen Pregnancy
A.
Prevalence and Trends
1. Analyzing who is at risk for teen pregnancy, it becomes
evident that statistic in various age groups and socio-economic categories
fluctuates. The lack of sex education and poverty are the contributing factors
to this phenomenon in teenage life.
2. Community components, which could be abstinence and sex
education, and the socio-economic divide have a large role in the rate of teen
pregnancies.
B. Health
problems and Complications
1. Teenage pregnancy is related to an increased risk of
preterm delivery and low infant birth weight, one of the reasons being that
pregnant teens need more consulting with doctors who can lower these risks.
2. Primarily, prenatal care during the early stages enables
us to deal with pregnancy complications that are related to teen pregnancy, as
well as fostering good outcomes for both the mother and the baby.
III. Role
played by Nurses during adolescent pregnancies.
A.
Prenatal-care and-education
1. Teenage pregnancy and prenatal care, along with
education, should be provided to reduce the number of adverse pregnancy
outcomes and, at the same time, ensure the optimum health of the baby.
2. Nurses are of vital importance in assisting pregnant teen
mothers with the provision of the needed prenatal care through which they will
get to monitor the fetus’s development, and in the process, they will educate
the teen mothers on nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.
B.
Psychosocial Support
1. Pregnant teens need social and psychological support
since teenagers go through many changes physically and emotionally and need
help in dealing with the stress that accompanies their prevailing situation.
2. Nurses can achieve the mental health and resilience of
their pregnant teens by making peer support groups available, as well as giving
them opportunities to get mental health services.
IV.
Preventing Teen Pregnancy and Educating Teens.
A.
Comprehensive Sex Education
1. Sexual education programs cover the bases by giving
teenagers a general understanding of conception and healthy connections among
people.
2. Nurses are vital in sex education as they participate in
school programs, community initiatives and one-on-one counselling sessions with
teenagers.
B. Access to
Contraception
1. Teenagers should be able to have access to contraception
facilities in order to minimize teenage pregnancy rates and also encourage them
to go for confidential and affordable contraceptive services.
2. Nursing interventions will persuade appropriate policies
to be formulated that see an improvement in the accessibility of contraceptive
services for teenagers by increasing availability and removal of barriers to
contraception.
V.
Conclusion
A. Epidemiology enabled nurses to create prevention
strategies.
1. From this perspective, teenage pregnancy has huge needs,
and nurses are significant as they are endowed to provide diverse and critical
care to the concerned adolescents.
2. Experienced nurses, particularly those who have in-depth
knowledge of teenage pregnancy, are effective facilitators of positive
pregnancy outcomes among female teens and their children .
B. Call to
Action
1. Advocate for communication about teenage pregnancy as a
problem and the development of funds for teen pregnancy prevention programs and
health care services.
2. Explain the avenues of future studies to enhance nursing
care for teenage moms, involving the assessment of the quality and
effectiveness of nurse-led interventions in the reduction of teen pregnancy.
