  • “Crossing the Threshold: Exploring Coming-of-Age Rituals Around the World”

While universal themes are identifiable across the globe, it doesn’t necessarily mean that all people experience them in the same way. Coming-of-age rituals vary from continent to continent, country to country, and region to region. Those differences are what make cultures and societies so unique and special. Your job for this assessment is to explore a variety of coming-of-age rituals and select one to write about in a descriptive expository essay.
An expository essay asks for students to investigate an idea, evaluate evidence, expand on an idea, and set an argument in a clear or concise manner.
As you work through this essay, you will follow a few different steps:
research the coming-of-age ritual using reputable sources
evaluate and select three credible sources
    synthesize the information
    write an expository essay

rior to beginning work on this assignment, review Chapters 9, 10 and 11 from your textbook, Principles of microeconomics and How to Calculate Total Cost, Marginal Cost, Average Variable Cost, and ATCLinks to an external site..
A firm operating in perfect competition has no influence over market price. It can sell any amount at the market-clearing price. The only one major decision to make then is about what quantity should be produced. When it decides the quantity to produce, then this quantity—along with the prices prevailing in the market for output and inputs—will determine the firm’s total revenue, total costs, and ultimately, level of profits.
For the Costs and Revenue in Perfect Competition Assignment, you will submit an MS Excel spreadsheet and a paper (word document) in Waypoint.
In the Costs and Revenue in Perfect Competition Template Download Costs and Revenue in Perfect Competition Template(MS Excel), fill in the missing values in the given table.

  • “Transforming California: Three Major Developments from World War II to the Present”

The Essay Exams are designed to get you to think analytically and critically about the material and present your assessment in an organized and coherent manner. It is also important to incorporate information from as many of the assigned reading assignments and videos as possible so as to exhibit a depth and breadth of knowledge on the topic.
    The Prompt:
Choose three major developments of California society from World War II to the present and explain why they are important?
    Important:
Do not use Artificial Intelligence, including Grammarly. This will result in a failing grade for this assignment and potentially a failing grade for the class along with academic probation.
Only use sources assigned by me (Video Lectures, textbook, various articles, and primary documents). Using outside sources will result in a failing grade.
    Expectations
You will find ample information to address these questions in The Elusive Eden textbook, videos and Discussion documents. Essay responses should show a thorough understanding of the readings and be college level (clear, organized, without typographical errors, logical, etc.)
Your essay should have an introduction with a clear argument, a well-developed body with ample supporting evidence, a conclusion that provides some final analysis, and be about seven paragraphs in length (paragraphs should be at least five sentences in length but often longer). Your argument is your brief answer to the question while the body of the essay is used to provide detailed historical examples to support your argument. Although analysis of the material should be woven into the body of your essay, the conclusion is where you will be able to show that you have thought about the material in a critical and analytical way (rather than simply regurgitating information). Also, remember that any information included in your essay should be pertinent to answering the question asked of you.
    Citations
For the purposes of this essay, you can use parenthetical citation. Please only use information from within the confines of this class, such as video lectures, the textbook, primary documents, and any other assigned readings.
Example for Video Lecture citation: (Video 1).
Example for Textbook citation: (Rice, 42).
Example for a Document citation: (“The Big Four”, 198).
    Important Tips
Because you have the question in advance, your essays should not have any grammatical errors or typos, should be written in fluid prose and indicate a clear command of the material.
Turnitin, a plagiarism detection software, is used for this assignment. Please see the Syllabus for details regarding academic dishonesty.
Use of artificial intelligence on this assignment will result in a score of zero and potentially a failing grade for the class.

  • “Exploring Identity and Culture through Trickster Tales and Poetry”

Length and form: These journals are not required to be in essay format, but should conform to standard English grammar.
Note: While I would like these assignments to be somewhat personal, students should realize that these entries may be considered for sharing with the class.
Evaluation: Student grades will be based on a collection of criteria. 1. Relevance: Students are expected to address the assignment directly. While there are many opportunities for free thinking and open response within the curriculum, this assignment is meant to serve a clear focus.
    2. Thoroughness: Responses, regardless of whether the task for the day is a written journal or some other means of expression, should evidence care and thought. In written responses, simple factual recording of events (unless that is the task of the assignment) will not receive as high an evaluation as one which clearly displays engagement on the part of the student. Although a minimum requirement of one written page is specified in the assignments, the word “minimum” will be stressed. I anticipate closer to two (or more) pages. Limiting responses to one page only will carry a penalty.
    3. Form and Style: Journals are expected to follow standard conventions regarding sentence construction and variety, as well as effective vocabulary choices, etc. Students are held accountable for exercising standard English conventions of grammar, spelling, and usage where appropriate to the genre, implied audience, purpose, and degree of formality.
There should be no use of the internet or other sources for the completion of any of the journal assignments. Use of internet or other sources will result in automatic “F” for the assignment.
Respond to two to three readings for the week; this week includes Trickster Tales, Phillis Wheatley, Countee Cullen, Sonia Sanchez, and Edgar Allan Poe, among others. Your responses may be responding to what you may have read or your life experiences that relate to the literature.
Your postings should be 1-2 paragraphs for each reading.
