Choose a character from a movie who is portrayed as suffering from a psychological disorder. Describe your character and his or her behaviors and feelings for each of the D’s described below. Are variations in those behaviors and feelings significant enough to constitute a psychological disorder, in your opinion? Why or why not?
Utilizing the four diagnostic D’s of:
Deviance (are the behaviors/feelings deviant?);
Dysfunction (do the behaviors/feelings interfere with the individual’s ability to function in daily life?);
Distress: (does the individual experience distress due to the behaviors/feelings?)
Danger: (re the behaviors/feelings harmful to the individual or those around him/her?)
Identify a fitting diagnosis that is based on criteria in the DSM-5, predict possible treatment options for this particular disorder. Then, explain how cultural and social diversity might influence perception and experience of this disorder.
