“The Evolution of Gothic Style: A Comparison of the 13th and 14th Century Gothic and the 19th Century Gothic Revival” For this assignment, I visited the First Presbyterian Church in my hometown of Greenville, South Carolina.

Take a look at the discussion of the Gothic style (13th and 14th centuries) in the link provided for Reading/video in unit 10.  Then look at the readings in this unit and study the Gothic Revival style (19th century).  Based on the text and illustrations, find and visit in person for this class a local example of a building that employs the Gothic Revival style.  There is likely a church in your town, or, perhaps a college building, or even a house with elements of this style.  In an essay of 250-350 words, identify the building, its purpose, and its location, see if you can find out its date and the architect (you may not be able to), and compare it to what you see in unit 10 — what are the similarities and differences between the original Gothic style and the newer building?   Note details such as the arches, vaults, use of stained glass, sculpture such as gargoyles, etc.  Use specific examples from both and please include a photograph of your example (cell phone is fine).
If you are not comfortable visiting a building in person, you may do the assignment online, but please choose an example that you could have seen in person.
