Criminal Background Checks and Future (Potential) Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).
EMS criminal background checks are currently mandated in 46 states. Read the following newspaper articles regarding EMTs with prior criminal histories. When the EMTs were certified, Illinois (Chicago’s first article) required criminal background checks before EMS certification and Iowa (Hawarden’s second article) did not. Discuss how the EMTs’ situations differ and how their prior criminal history affects their duties and patient care.
