Assessment
Choose one of the topics below and write an essay (length maximum 3,000 words – not including references).
1. A local pressure group is campaigning for universal screening for autism in 2 year old children. One of their arguments for this is that early intervention improves outcome for children with autism. You are the local child health lead and the commissioners have asked you how they should respond to this request.
Or
2. You are the lead for child health in an organisation serving a disadvantaged population. An opportunity has arisen to bid for a substantial sum of money in a government-funded initiative, to introduce interventions to improve outcomes for children and young people. Choose one specific priority topic (e.g. oral health, obesity, immunisation uptake etc. not general well being or other general topics) of child health which needs to be improved and discuss the rationale for your choice. Describe the evidence for effectiveness of the intervention you have chosen to introduce and how you would evaluate this. (This could be based in either an acute or community setting and in any country of your choice).
Or
3. The Global COVID-19 pandemic will undoubtedly have had impacts on the physical and mental health of some children and young people, and on educational and wellbeing outcomes. Using examples, describe some of the impacts we are likely to see. How could we measure these? What interventions/policies, relating to health services could we introduce to alleviate negative impacts? (these could be at country or local level).
