“Exploring the Impact of AI on Writing: An Evidence Analysis of Estelle Erasmus’s ‘How to Resist the Temptation of AI When Writing’”

Read “Chapter 1: Time is on Your Side” in Write Here, Right Now, and learn the specifics of the Evidence Lists and Observational Paragraph exercise. Pay particular attention to the example provided in the text: Evidence Lists and Observational Paragraph for David Bollier’s “The Plot to Privatize Common Knowledge” (https://pressbooks.library.ryerson.ca/writehere/chapter/chapter-1-gathering-evidence-video/).
Now read Estelle Erasmus’s “How to Resist the Temptation of AI When Writing” (PDF attached) and produce Evidence Lists listing the interesting words, new words, synonyms, patterns and contrasts you find in that article. Aim for the same level of effort detailed in the example from our text: 7-10 interesting words, 7-10 definitions of new words, 7-10 lists of synonyms and/or patterns, and 7-10 contrasts. Once you have completed and reviewed your lists, select two pieces of evidence you believe to be most important and compose your Observational Paragraph. Scroll to the bottom of this page from our text for an example of an Observational Paragraph: https://pressbooks.library.ryerson.ca/writehere/chapter/chapter-1-activity/.
