– One parapraph for each topic.
For your initial post, pick TWO of these topics, and write a paragraph using clear, though informal writing for each.
The film follows the emergence of this music from deep roots in the soil of America. Compare and contrast the background of two of the artists featured in the film. How did their place of birth, subsequent migration, and socio-economic status influence their musical career?
We are introduced in the film to several independent record producers, record label owners and radio disk jockeys. What role did these men play in the creation and dissemination of this music? Pick one (or two) and describe their professional relationships or dealings with important artists.
What are some stylistic characteristics that were adapted from R&B and carried over into rock and roll? How did country music, the blues, boogie-woogie and gospel contribute to the sound? Name one artist and one of his songs featured in the film, and describe what you can hear of these elements.
There is some harsh and racist language in the documentary. How did this racism affect the artists in the film, and their fans? Why was it important for the black artists, or white artists influenced by black artists, to cross over to the white market? What societal taboos were being tested in the process?
