The Implementation of Electronic Health Records: Functional, Regulatory, and Legal Considerations

Step 1 Reflect on your use of electronic health records.
Reflect on your involvement with the implementation of electronic health records (EHRs) within the clinical setting (either as a practicing nurse or as a student in the clinical setting).
If you have not used an EHR, think about how you might implement an EHR in your practice setting. Answer the questions in Step 2 using this hypothetical EHR system.
Step 2 Analyze the implementation of electronic health records.
Write your paper using the APA 7.0 formatting style. Cite all resources used to complete the assignment and be sure to include a reference list.
Address the following topics in your paper:
Explain at least three functional considerations to take into account when implementing an EHR.
Explain regulatory considerations for implementing EHRs.
Explain interoperability. Why is interoperability important?
Explain data integrity. Why is data integrity important?
Explain why the security of data is important when implementing an EHR.
Explain the legal concerns surrounding the implementation of EHRs.
You are required to provide evidence to support your statements in your submissions. The level of evidence you use to support your statements in your assignment submissions is important and must be properly cited and referenced. Scholarly resources should be < 5 years old, peer reviewed, and from reputable resources. Your textbook and any article you are asked to locate/read should always be used as evidence. The next level of evidence would be peer reviewed articles, and after that, well known web sites for example: CDC or the AHA. Avoid the use of blogs or obscure or non-healthcare related web sites. Never utilize Wikipedia for scholarly work.
