Community Teaching Project: Promoting Health Literacy for Older Adults

dentify topic of interest by asking older adults in your community what health related information/teaching them need to support quality, healthy living. You may see them at church, grocery store, senior centers, family or as neighbors. Use safety guidelines (physical distancing/mask as needed) as you interact with this vulnerable population. 
2.  Review the information presented on the CDC site related to health teaching and older adults. Especially look at the material under “Develop & Test Materials” in left menu.  Under that tab there is an area “Understanding your Audience.”  See what is recommended for Older Adults. Also see information under What are the Challenges for older adults?

3.  Develop a teaching presentation on the identified topic taking into consideration the teaching/learning needs of older adults.  You can create handouts, pamplet, powerpoint slides, or video  that can be used to present the material. This must be your own work.  Avoid copying already made teaching materials.  Reference and cite as appropriate.  Be sure to prepare your project to meet the needs and challenges of older adults and health information literacy.  Work on this week 4-5.
4. Deliver your prepared teaching presentation on the identified topic and cite as appropriate. Be sure to deliver your project to meet the needs and challenges of older adults and health information literacy in both written or oral presentation.  You can use email, FaceTime, Zoom etc if a virtual presentation is best for you small group.  Work on this week 5.  
5. Use the   Community Teaching Project Feedback Form.docx
to gather older adults’ evaluation of teaching project delivery. See attached form. You need to submit the feedback forms. You can scan the feedback forms or take photos to upload them with your assignment. You are to summarize the findings in the assignment write-up and discuss any changes needed in the project to meet the needs of the participants.  What were your strengths and/or areas for improvement? 
6.  Submit the following to the link above Week 5 :
a. Teaching presentation materials (pamphlet, brochure, Slides or video (whatever you decided was best form for the materiel)
b. A short narrative word document describing:
1. how you chose your topic
2. methods and strategies to meet the health literacy and teaching/learning needs for older adults. 
3. A description of your implementation/teaching, describing how you chose to deliver your topic with methods and strategies to meet the health literacy.
4. Include a summary of participant(s) feedback and any changes needed in the project

This is not full APA but if you used a resource then cite the reference appropriately in text and give full reference.  Cite references in teaching materials as appropriate.  See rubric for more information. Please note that you can attach multiple files in this attempt.  Please be sure that you carefully upload your documents as emailed documents are not accepted without instructor permission.
