Title: The Power of Humor: An Analysis of Its Various Forms and Reflection of Human Nature in “Their Eyes Were Watching God”

Humor operates on many different levels and in many different ways in this book. Like Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God, this book explores the depth and purposes of humor and how it reveals things in a different light than tragedy alone. Of course, there is plenty of tragedy to go around for every single character in this book, but the book is not “tragic” or about tragic characters (rather tragedy seems to be the ying-yang of the humor that Cause residents and others use to describe/explain tragic life circumstances).
Examine the nature of humor in the novel, in its different forms and what it reveals about human nature. Focus on one particular type of humor and give 3-4 examples of humor. Analyze those examples quoting/citing the book for supporting evidence.
