Title: Examining the Effectiveness of Mass Imprisonment as a Crime Reduction Strategy in the United States: Applying Sociological Criminological Theories, Punishment Philosophies, and Perspectives on Punishment from Prominent Sociologists

Is mass imprisonment of offenders a successful strategy in crime reduction in the United States?
If so, how does it work?
If not, suggest some alternatives to prison that may be more successful.
In your answer, describe and apply any TWO sociological criminological theories that were discussed in chapters 9, 10, 11, and 12 of our textbook.  
In your answer, also describe and apply any TWO punishment philosophies that were discussed in chapter 23 of the textbook. 
Lastly, in your answer incorporate the perspectives on punishment from TWO sociologists (Durkheim, Marx, Weber, Elias, Foucault, as described in chapter 23 of the textbook).
