The Role of Spirituality in Health: A Personal Reflection and Assessment Interview

The purpose of this assignment is to gain insight into the role that spirituality plays in the health of individuals and the importance of conducting an assessment of spirituality in clinical practice.
For this assignment, it is important to examine one’s own spiritual beliefs and practices before assessing those of others. Reflect upon your beliefs and how they might impact your interactions with others and eventually inform your nursing practice.
Then, in an interview with an individual (friend, roommate, coworker) utilize FICA Spiritual History Tool, found in Physical Examination and Health Assessment, to assess the individual’s religious or spiritual practices, using appropriate therapeutic communication techniques.
In a 750-1,000-word paper, address the following:
1.    Describe your views of spirituality and religious or spiritual practices, and how you will incorporate them into your nursing practice.
2.    Describe your interviewee’s religious or spiritual practices using information gained from the interview, supplemented by research about the individual’s religious or spiritual practices from at least two reputable resources.
3.    Describe how the interviewee’s religious or spiritual practices might impact the nursing care the individual would receive in the event of a health crisis.
4.    Discuss current evidence (research findings) from nursing or other health care literature, for incorporating spiritual practices into an individual’s plan of care, citing a minimum of two sources.
5.    Provide a summary supporting the importance for conducting a spiritual assessment.
