“The Power of Humor in Deacon King Kong: Exploring its Forms and Revelations of Human Nature”

In Deacon King Kong humor operates on many different levels and in many different ways in this book.  Like Zora Neale Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God, this book explores the depth TVand purposes of humor and how it reveals things in a different light than tragedy alone. Of course, there is plenty of tragedy to go around for every single character in this book, but the book is not “tragic” or about tragic characters (rather tragedy seems to be the ying-yang of the humor that Cause residents and others use to describe/explain tragic life circumstances).
