Case Study #3 – Pat is a young man just beginning his professional career in financial planning. He is an unashamed follower of Christ, has a strong network of friends, and regularly participates in the community life of his church. However, Pat struggles with a lustful thought life and an appetite for pornography. Often, he will say no to his thoughts and appetites, but when he does not, he sinks into despair. The shame and guilt of his choices are crushing and result in a new list of disciplines to protect himself. After several years in financial planning, the firm let him go for budgetary reasons. Pat feels that the Lord is punishing him for his struggles. Assuming you are Pat’s accountability partner, how would you speak the gospel into his life and struggles?
