Patient Education on the Use of Metformin for Diabetes Management

A final “Patient Education Assignment” worth 5 points will involve choosing one medication from any of the drug classes that you can teach a family member or friend about. This should be an opportunity to practice patient teaching skills on a real person that is taking a real or prescribed medication. You, as the “nurse”, must interview this “patient” who is being started on or already taking a medication. You assume the role of the nurse and you will write the dialogue that may include questions and answers in which you teach the “patient” about the use of the drug, possible side effects of which to be aware, any major or applicable contraindications, cautions or other teachings that would be important for safety and effectiveness of the medication. This assignment may be completed at any time during the course but must be completed by the last day of class.
