Ways to Proceed: You may examine the text from the author’s point of view (biography), from a historical standpoint, from a cultural/sociological perspective, or from any other critical position that strikes your fancy. The main point is that you must have a critical framework from which you examine the text. Furthermore, where there is a clear-cut opposition to your perspective, you must attempt to refute opposing arguments to your point of view. Other than that, you are only limited in this assignment by the text that has been chose for you (you must necessarily examine the text on which your paper centers—this is a text-driven assignment), and by your own imagination.
Criteria for Evaluation: Your paper should be typed, double-spaced, one-inch margins (top, bottom, left, right), twelve point font (Courier, Arial, Times New Roman, Antique Olive, Bookman Old Style). Your essay should be between approximately FIVE to SEVEN (5-7) pages in length, including your Works Cited page. You will need to have a minimum of TWO (2) secondary sources for this paper. Proper MLA citation and documentation—including parenthetical citations in the text of the paper and a “Works Cited” page is an absolute necessity for this paper.
